Week 4

Labor Day weekend is almost here... :)

This week heralds the arrival of the famous seventh chord. Congratulations AP-ers, we're finally out of theory-review world. Things are about to get interesting!

On Monday I'll return your Ch. 1/2 quizzes. We'll do a quick once-over on triads and then move into seventh chords. Please look over Ch. 3 if you haven't already. Homework due Monday is pp. 19-20 (A-C, plus D #1-15) from the workbook packet. I'd like to do a quiz on Friday 3 September over part of Ch. 3: we'll hit triads & seventh chords at the very least and inversions & figured bass if we get to it this week.

Let's have another go at a group picture for the blog. We'll do it at the end of class Monday.

Hey guys!

Don't forget that you have a quiz over Ch. 1 & 2 on Thursday. Be sure to review all you key signatures, intervals, scale degree names & octaves (C4, C5, etc.) in addition to the newer stuff over beat & meter. Your homework is to study for that.

Homework for Monday: finish interval packets & read Ch. 2: Rhythm

On Monday we'll begin with the dictation we didn't get to today. We'll also review scale degree names and begin Ch. 2. I'll have your key signature quizzes graded and ready for you!

Mitchell - I should have a book for you by then. Please help me remember to get you those copies in Chamber tomorrow. :)

Thanks for being prepared with your homework - I know it might have been a bit of scale-overload for some of you... BUT, the quicker those scales & key signature come to you, the easier your life is going to be in this class.

Homework for Thursday:
Complete the packet I distributed in class. (Justin, you'll need to come by and pick this up tomorrow.) Make sure you use the key provided to check your work.

Key Signature quiz Thursday. Be prepared to identify any written key signature, write any key signature, write any scale, identify any scale, as well as tell me how many #s/bs are in any key signature. See me tomorrow if you've any questions.

First Day! Here we go...

Hey gang,

I'm thrilled to have each of you in AP this year. We have a lot of ground to cover together, so it's important that you keep up with your assignments, etc. and let me know if you need some extra tutoring on a certain subject. It's going to be a great year!

Homework for Tuesday, 10 August:
*Using provided staff paper, write out all major & minor scales. Include all 3 versions of each minor scale. (Total: 48 scales) Ascending & descending. Clef of your choice.

Key Signature Quiz is coming up Thursday, 12 August. You should be able to identify a given key signature OR provide the key signature I ask for. All major AND minor keys. Be prepared for Alto & Tenor clefs to be used... There are some great exercises in Ch. 1 of your text, fyi...
